You Won’t Believe How Old Some of Your Fave Disney Things Will Be in 2017

Now that a new year is upon us, it’s the perfect time to reflect on all the great Disney moments of the past. Here’s a fair warning: This array of your favorite Disney things may leave you feeling nostalgic and wistful, in which case it’s always useful to remind yourself of these sage words from Walt Disney himself: “Adults are only grown up kids, anyway.”

Here’s how old some of your favorite things will be in 2017:

1. In June, it will be 20 years since Hercules came out in theaters!

If you’re anything like us, you remember seeing this on the big screen with your parents. Guess what? That was nearly two decades ago.

2. Lizzie McGuire debuted on Disney Channel 16 years ago.

There are kids out there right now who were born on January 12, 2001 (the day Lizzie McGuire aired for the first time) and are now probably learning how to drive a car.

3. Disney’s The Lion King on Broadway took to the stage 20 years ago in November.

It is time … to remember how spectacular this musical is (and potentially see it again).

4. The Rescuers embarked on their mission 40 years ago in June!

Penny was saved by Bernard and Bianca the same year that Star Wars: Episode IV came out.

5. Grab a gift to celebrate Disney Store—it will be 30 years old in March!

And it’s just as magical as ever.

6. Also in March: The classic Pirates of the Caribbean in Disneyland has been presenting a swashbuckling tale for 50 years!

7. Lilo & Stitch crash landed onto Earth 15 years ago in June.

And so many of us were introduced to ‘ohana, and we’ve been changed permanently.

8. We saw a whole new world of magic when Aladdin debuted 25 years ago in November.

A quarter of a century ago, we all made way for Prince Ali.

9. Recess and Pepper Ann debuted on ABC in 1997—20 years ago!

We were introduced to Recess in August and Pepper Ann in September, and it’s still hard to believe there was ever a time before them.

10. Walt Disney World’s Epcot opened 30 years ago in October!

The pioneering park expanded the magic and innovation of Walt Disney World, and it continues to be one of our favorite destinations in the world.

11. Winnie the Pooh had his Many Adventures 40 years ago!

Naturally, Pooh was part of popular culture long before 1977, but The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh is one of the most adorable and enduring movies featuring the silly old bear.

12. And finally, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will be 80 years old!

This landmark film launched the basis for all the animated films we know and love today, and it’s still just as enchanting to watch now as the first time we saw it.
