How much do you walk at Walt Disney World?

What park do you think you walk the most while at Walt Disney World?  I always assumed it was probably Epcot. I decided on my last trip to Orlando I would record my steps/miles walked using the Health App on my Apple iPhone.  It turns out that of the four Walt Disney World theme parks, I walked the most at Hollywood Studios, with nearly 23,000 steps and almost 10.5 miles walked!  I would have never guessed that. A close second was Epcot and then Magic Kingdom.  I walked the least distance by far at Animal Kingdom.  Interestingly, we also went to Legoland and the walking there averaged about the same as Magic Kingdom. But with the most amount of steps/miles walked, Sea World beat them all by far. While at Sea World, I did around 27,000 steps and 12 miles.

You can look at these numbers and try to explain away differences easily; which way you walk around each park, where you park, how long you are at the park, etc.  Even looking at my numbers when we did a “half day” at Magic Kingdom (arrived around 1pm, but left around 11pm) we did more walking than the next day, which we would consider a “full day”.

Lesson to be Learned

I think what is to be learned here is you need to be prepared to walk, and walk a lot around the parks at Walt Disney World, and the other parks in the Orlando area. I averaged just over 21,000 steps and 9.55 miles each day while in Orlando. This is not the time to wear new shoes (for you or your kids) or uncomfortable shoes. If you have children, think long and hard about your stroller choices. If you aren’t bringing a stroller, or renting one, kids will be walking the same distance and taking many more steps than you. Take into account that Orlando is also probably warmer and has higher humidity compared to where you live. So add exercise to your list of things to do to get ready to go to Walt Disney World. Get out and get those steps in so you can enjoy the happiest place on earth!
