On our most recent trip to Walt Disney World, we decided to buy the Disney’s Memory Maker photo package (read all about Memory Maker) which gives you all your photos digitally. One of the most fun things we did this time with the Disney PhotoPass (learn all about Disney PhotoPass) team was to take Magic Shots. Magic Shots are images that the PhotoPass team take and then they add a little magic. Our kids didn’t want to take pictures at Disney World, which wasn’t an option after paying over $169 for the Memory Maker package. After our first day that included a Magic Shot, they were hooked. That night we went back to our room and looked at our photos on the computer. We came across the Magic Shot and the kids were amazed. The kids loved the picture so much they couldn’t wait to take more. So instead of us dragging them over to have their photos taken, they were dragging us over to see what kind of Magic Shot they would get. After each Magic Shot the kids would try to guess what was going to appear in the picture. Each night or next morning, we checked out the Magic Shots to see what we got. In just 4.5 days in the park, we racked up over 400 photos and over 40 Magic Shots.
Note: When talking to the PhotoPass photographer, try not to say loudly which Magic Shots you have already gotten. People in line behind you may be asked to do a Magic Shot. Don’t ruin the surprise and the joy of going home (or to a PhotoPass kiosk) to see what fun shot they got.
Update December 2015:
The price for the advance-purchase Memory Maker product (which does not include photos taken within three days of purchase) is now $149. The price for the standard Memory Maker product (which can be used immediately upon purchase) is now $169.
