On our last trip to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, we tried some of the delicious treats from Zuri’s Sweets Shop.  Located in the new Harambe Market area this new shop features over 80 items, including decorative candy apples, uniquely flavored chocolate bars, African-spiced popcorn, animal-shaped lollipops, animal cookies, wines and other treats. Zuri’s Sweets Shop also has a variety of African spice rubs, gourmet sets and baskets.  Our boys had a hard time deciding what sweet treat they wanted.  We ended up with a tiger shaped cookie and Mickey Mouse chocolate-covered Rice Krispies treat.  Prices range from around $3 to $10 per item for the sweet treats in the treat case.  A bulk candy and nuts area lets you pick your own assortment, priced at $17.99 per pound(when we were there).  One thing to note: Zuri’s Sweets Shop is no longer selling the animal-inspired poo sweet treats.  I believe too many people complained because they looked too real.

New Harambe Market

Right next door to Zuri’s Sweets Shop is the new Harambe Market, which has four counter service restaurants.  Kitamu Grill offers skewered chicken and kebab flatbread sandwiches.  Famous Sausages has corndogs with curry in the batter made with South African sausage.  Chef Mwanga’s offers spice-rubbed Karubi Rib paired with green papaya-carrot slaw, and Wanjohi Refreshments has craft beers, wines and non-alcoholic drinks.  The market’s seating area is open-air, but much of it is shaded by trees or umbrellas.  There are tables with views of the Wildlife Express Train and the Harambe platform, which showcases live entertainment.  The area is the latest expansion of the Animal Kingdom’s Africa section.  The space also opens up into a new (much-needed) pathway from the Africa section and the Asia section of Animal Kingdom.
