Dining without reservations at Walt Disney World

Dining withou reservations at Walt Disney World

For those days you are in the parks at Walt Disney World and don’t have dining reservations, it’s usually good to have a plan about where to eat, especially with small children. Some restaurants don’t have food your children like or just don’t work for your family. We tend to skip the restaurants that have waiters/waitresses, as we want to maximize our park time, but we also skip the small outdoor “snack stands,” as we do enjoy some time in air conditioning while sitting down to eat. These are known as Quick Service Restaurants at Walt Disney World. Below are our favorite restaurants in the parks at Walt Disney World.

Magic Kingdom

PecosBillAt Magic Kingdom we like to go to Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Café located in Frontierland close to Splash Mountain. At lunch they serve several items such as barbecued pork sandwiches, cheeseburgers, chicken sandwiches and more. Kids’ meals include Smucker’s Uncrustables, hamburgers, grilled cheese, turkey and barbecued pork sandwiches. Dinner has the same selection, but they add Karubi style short ribs to the items to choose from. See the full menu here. Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Café also has a topping bar, which means you can really load up on the toppings. If you are looking for seating, there is a somewhat hidden room closest to Pirates of the Caribbean.

Animal Kingdom

restaurantosaurusOur go-to restaurant at Animal Kingdom is Restaurantosaurus.  It’s located in DinoLand U.S.A.  It’s a bit hidden, but if you head towards the Dinosaur ride, you should find it.  One plus for this restaurant  is, like Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Café, it has a lot of indoor, air-conditioned seating.  It can fill up, but remember there is seating on both sides of the ordering window.  Also like Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Café, there is a topping station and a drink station, so load up on some extra tomatoes and drink as much as you want!  One cute thing is all the kids meals are served in a sand pail with a shovel.  I’m honestly not sure why, but if you are heading to the beach after your Walt Disney World trip, it’s one less thing you have to bring from home or buy when you get to the beach.  On our last trip to Walt Disney World, we did just this, and brought them with us.  Here is the full menu.

Hollywood Studios

PizzaPlanetAt Hollywood Studios, we go to Pizza Planet located in the Streets of America section of the park. across from the entrance to Muppet Vision 3D. Again, there is a lot of indoor seating (don’t forget to check upstairs) and its air conditioned.  There is no topping bar nor a drink station here.  They serve pizza, meatball subs, and salads, which is a nice break from all the hamburgers you will consume while at Walt Disney World.  For the kids they have pizza, chicken sub, meatball sub, and the Power Pack.  A few times we have actually picked up a Power Pack (it’s available at a few restaurants around Walt Disney World) and stuck the items in our bag.  For under $6, it includes a lot of snack food that is good to have on hand with kids.  Here is the full menu.

Epcot

SunshineAt Epcot, we head over to the Land and eat at  Sunshine Seasons. Again with plenty of indoor air-conditioned seating, Sunshine Season makes it to our list.  Another big plus is the amount of food choices.  There are several stations that you can choose to pick from.  So dad can have sushi, and mom can have stir-fry or fish tacos. There is only one set of registers, so you don’t have to worry about checking out separately – get everyone’s food and check out together.  If you can get FastPass+ for Soarin’ around lunch time this makes for an easy stop after/before your FastPass+ time. Unfortunately there isn’t a topping bar nor free refills here either, but with the amount of seating and wide variety of food, we make this our go-to restaurant at Epcot.  Don’t get me wrong – we still like to eat while walking through the countries, which is what we usually do for dinner.  Here is the full menu.
